Robert Guthrie
Robert Guthrie is well known to American audiences through his hundreds of recitals and concerto performances. Guthrie has performed in virtually every major city of the United States and throughout Mexico, Italy, Russia, Spain and Venezuela. He has made recordings for N.P.R., which have been broadcast nationally, and P.B.S. produced a documentary on his performing and teaching.
Guthrie attended the North Carolina School of Arts, where he studied with Jesus Silva and Andres Segovia. His was one of the first Artist-in-Residence appointments by the North Carolina Arts Council. As a member of Affiliate Artists, he gave more than 400 performances in Mississippi, Texas, and West Virginia, and is cited by that organization as one of their most successful and popular artists.
Guthrie’s teaching credits include hundreds of master classes in universities and conservatories in the U.S. and abroad. He has been a faculty member of Yale University, the Boston Conservatory and the Aspen Music Festival. Guthrie is head of the guitar program at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, where his students are frequent competition winners at local, national, and international levels.
